MUP Knows Why the Caged Bear Sings: Mercer University Press Remembers Maya Angelou
Literary legend Maya Angelou died today at the age of eighty-six. The poet Percy Shelley believed that poets could briefly glimpse perfect truth and then were obligated to capture it with imperfect language before the memory of that truth faded. The memory, he said, like holding an ember as it cooled to nothing. Maya is one ember that will keep on burning. Mercer University Press will miss her.
